Pepsi or Coke?

Are you team pepsi or team coke?  This is a simple advertisement for pepsi.  Its intent is to persuade people to drink pepsi over coke.  I came across this on Google as I was browsing different ads.  The style is simple with minimal decorations and typography.  It does say "Joy-Pepsi" in the corner which adds more to the photo.  The two cans being the main focus works for the ad because that's the main purpose.  The idea and concept was very well thought out too.  What attracted me to this was the playful straws, the bright blue background, and the contrast between blue and red.

"Everything is Illuminated"

Here is a picture for a book cover that one of my friends received for free.  It's function is to draw attention for the readers.  The typography is big and colorful.  It's design is simple, but still catches eyes.  It only includes the title rather than having an image too.  I think it did a great job with its overall design.  The gradient of colors and big text attracted it to me which I really enjoy.

New-Wave

This is a poster for the "New Wave" typography.  It introduces a different style of design.  I came across this poster while exploring Tumblr.  The design is unique from others, with the movement of text, bright colors, and use of diagonal lines.  Even though it is pretty simple, it still serves its purpose well.  The bright pink and yellow attracted me to it as well as the curving title.

Book Cover

This is a cover design for the novel "The Great Gatsby" by F. Scott Fitzgerald.  Its function is to draw peoples' attention and have them read the book.  I came across this on Pinterest while trying to find a good book to read even though I've already read this book.  The style is fun and bold; the red and the yellow really pop.  The typography has many curves as well.  I think it's great quality overall and is a great alternative cover.

Shoe Ad?!

Hey everyone!  This is an advertisement for Rain & Duck Boots.  Its function is to persuade people into buying their products.  I was in Macy's and came across this in the shoe section.  The design reminds me a little of the style art deco because of the curves and shapes.  The quality is fairly high.  What attracted me the most were the raindrops because they contained some of the patterns from the shoes in them.  The black and red colors also caught my eye since they are often seen together.

Hopscotch Music Festival

Here we have a creative poster for the 2011 Hopscotch Music Festival!  It's function is to interest people into attending.  I saw it on Pinterest as I was exploring the website.  Its design is simple, consistent, and fun.  The dates and the title of the festival was incorporated into the guitar which was a great touch to the poster.  The date and the words "music festival" are in the same font while "Hopscotch" is in a more bold one.  I think that the simplicity of the poster makes it more beautiful; the little design that makes up the guitar is creative which is what also attracted me to this piece.  Even though it isn't very colorful, the yellow really pops.

Snow White Movie Poster

This week's blog post includes a movie poster for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.  Its function is to promote the movie and get people to watch it.  It also shows that there are different designs of movie posters and that the original posters aren't always the best.  The design of this poster is simplistic, but it definitely works.  'Snow White' is in a simple text and doesn't draw attention away from the apple.  The poster does a great job of promoting the movie; it's simple, but it's context shines through.  I was attracted by the eaten apple having a heart in the core.

"Repstyle"

This is a page from Teen Vogue's issue from December/January 2013.  It is advertising Essie's new nail polish by showing off the nice metallic gold color and having it drip onto a plain white high heel.  It turns something plain and boring to something bold and shiny.  The word "repstyle" is in the same color of the nail polish and different font which makes it stand out and emphasize the boldness.  The whole ad is simple and feminine, yet playful.  I really liked this page because it was gold and I like the nail polish brand in general.

This week's blog post includes this image of a poster.  It's function is to draw someone's eye and to simply advertise flowers.  I was scrolling through my tumblr dashboard and came across this picture. The style is very bold and colorful.  The typography is great; the letters are all arranged in random order and has a simple font that doesn't draw attention away from the rest of the poster.  The quality of the artwork is great as well, having a clear image and design.  I really enjoyed the colors with all the pinks, purples, and reds.  The arrangement also caught my attention and I think that makes the poster more efficient.

Limitless: Our Flight As Eagles

This week's post includes the cover of my school's yearbook from last year that I helped create!  It's purpose is to draw attention to people so they will buy it and also advertise the school.  I thought the colors really made the cover stand out.  The purple shadow behind the black "Limitless" really makes it pop more.  I also really enjoy the eagle made out of constellations in the top right corner; it's pretty subtle and not too dramatic which I think ties the cover in together very nicely.  The title is in two different fonts and sizes so that it also isn't too boring.

Graphic Design History

I chose this image for this week's blog post.  It's very colorful and eye catching with all the different and bright colors as well as the pain splatter effect it has.
